Tender Loving Empire’s Winter Formal @ The Woods, December 2, 2010
Tender Loving Empire, home to goodies for all your senses, presents a re-imagining of a cold weather tradition: the winter formal. Here is the story:
Dinner in the dark? The Portland Blind Cafe 2 invites you to share in a community awareness event where diners explore the experience of being blind while raising money for guide dogs. In the dark. The dark dark.
I don’t know about you, but I have been to the Community Cycling Center a lot. I bought my bike lights, tube patch kit, fenders and odd nuts and bolts there. I’ve had my fork trued and wheel replaced. And I most certainly have enjoyed the concentrated source of good looking men who are very good at servicing my needs with a ready smile and a little grease on their manly brow. And now these good men (and women) need our help! So please join me and hopefully the rest of our community at their fundraiser: the Holiday Bike Drive Sneak Peek.
Fish-Work Europe by Portland-based artist Corey Arnold will be his second solo show at Hartman Fine Art, opening on First Thursday, December 2nd from 5:00—8:00p.
Arnold, a long time commercial fisherman in Alaska himself, captures the experience of the current state of fish in the old country first hand. He will be sharing images from 15 trips at sea, over a five month period, in nine European countries, of fisherman in their natural habitat. If you were lucky enough to see his first show, you’ll know this is not to be missed. His pictures make me feel cold and damp and close to the sea. They also offer a personal look at a life so far from shore not many of us get to know it.
