A Hawk & A Hacksaw, Denver, Ezza Rose @ Mississippi Studios, March 5, 2011
I had the pleasure of having Ezza Rose play at a show at my house on Valentines day and her lilting voice and story songs had me swooning (this was a solo set, I can only imagine what she sounds like in front of a 5 piece band). Tonight she will be playing with fellow Portland band, Denver and A Hawk & A Hacksaw out of Albuquerque NM. The Denver boys bring you good ole country with their twang and lonesome. A Hawk & A Hacksaw put me in mind of Miles Davis’ Sketches of Spain meets Balkan Folk. This is a show not to be missed!!

Kelli Schaefer Album Release, Aan, Campfire Ok @ The Artistery,
I was listening to Kelli Schaefer at Little Edie’s, thinking about how she reminded me of PJ Harvey (and I wouldn’t just throw that comment around, I LOVE PJ Harvey) when a woman came in who had a lot of great things to say about Kelli. In short, Kelli Schaefer is a kind woman with one hell of a voice. And tonight, as part of The Artistery‘s closing week of killer shows, she will be releasing her first full length album, “Ghost of the Beast“. With Aan and Campfire OK.

Research Club’s Mixer @ Bunk Bar,
Do you know about Research Club? I didn’t and it sounds amazing. Research Club is a community-supported think tank that hosts classes, a free monthly brunch, lectures, and more. Their events encourage participants to share their ideas and passions, purposely mixing people of different disciplines, skill-levels, and perspectives. Why? because that makes great conversation.
